ACQUISITION OF SECURITIES BY NEWSHELF 1405 (RF) PROPRIETARY LIMITED ("Newshelf 1405")

Further to the announcement dated 1 September 2023 regarding Absa’s B-BBEE transaction implementation,
and in accordance with section 122(3)(b) of the Companies Act, No. 71 of 2008 and section 3.83(b) of the
JSE Listings Requirements, shareholders are hereby advised that Absa Group has received formal
notification from Newshelf 1405 that the company has acquired a 7% interest in the issued ordinary shares
of the Group.

As required in terms of Section 122 of the Companies Act, the required notice will be filed with the Takeover
Regulation Panel.

The board of directors of Absa Group accepts responsibility for the information contained in the
announcement, having received the form TRP121.1 from Newshelf 1405 and, to the best of their respective
knowledge, believe the information contained in the announcement is accordingly true.
