Johannesburg, Monday 16 February 2004 - Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited     
(NYSE: HMY JSE: HAR) today announced that it had reached an agreement with the  
National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) who represents the approximate 4 500 Harmony
employees that embarked on a protected strike during the Wednesday 12 February  
2004 nightshift.                                                                
NUM accepted the company"s offer of a 9% increase for the period 1 January 2004 
to      30 June 2004. To facilitate the inclusion of these employees into the bi
annual wage agreement which will be re-negotiated in July 2005, the parties also
agreed to an additional 1% increase for the period 1 July 2004 to 31 December
