Wescoal Chairman: Classification as independent non-executive director

In compliance with paragraph 3.59 of the Listings Requirements of the JSE Limited, the board of
directors of Wescoal (“the Board”) hereby notifies its shareholders that it has undertaken an
assessment of the independence of the current non-executive director, Dr Humphrey Mathe, in
accordance with the Companies Act, No 71 of 2008 and King Code on Corporate Governance for
South Africa (“King IVTM”). It has now been determined that he meets the independence
requirements set out therein, accordingly, Dr Mathe’s classification has been changed to that of
an independent non-executive director, with immediate effect.
