Ms Hess has a degree in commerce and is a qualified chartered accountant, with cross-industry experience predominantly in the FMCG sector. She has had involvement at executive and director level in a number of major corporates in South Africa over the past 20 years, including roles as chief financial officer, head of finance, finance executive and head of remuneration. Most recently, she was chief financial officer of a major media company and currently acts as consultant to various corporates and a trustee of public benefit trusts. Ms Hess is also a non-executive director of JSE listed RCL Foods Limited and Consolidated Infrastructure Group Limited, and Vice Chairperson of the Council of the University of the Western Cape. Ms Hess’ appointment brings diversity and experience, including in the fields of risk management, restructuring and corporate finance, to the Truworths board. Executive director Ms Sarah Proudfoot has been appointed as an executive director of the company with effect from 23 May 2019. Ms Proudfoot has been the Director: Ladieswear Merchandise of the principal trading subsidiary of Truworths Limited since 2016, and an employee of the group since 2001. She has a diploma in clothing design and has held a number of managerial and executive positions in the ladieswear merchandise division during her career in the group. Ms Proudfoot has a wealth of experience in relation to merchandise design, merchandise buying and planning and store design. She contributes materially to the marketing portfolio and to many significant strategic issues within the group. Her appointment adds further diversity to the board, and will serve to strengthen the board's capabilities in important fashion retail functions.
