TRADING STATEMENT

In terms of the Listings Requirements of JSE Limited, companies are
required to publish a trading statement as soon as they become reasonably
certain that the financial results for the period to be reported on will
differ by at least 20% from that of the previous corresponding period.

Shareholders are advised that Basil Read’s headline earnings per share for
the six months ended 30 June 2016 is expected to be between 44 cents per
share and 51 cents per share or between 18.5% and 37.4% higher compared to
the 37.13 cents per share for the previously reported corresponding period.
The difference in earnings per share is expected to be below the reporting
threshold.

The financial information on which this trading statement is based has not
been reviewed or reported on by Basil Read’s external auditors.

The results for the six months ended 30 June 2016 are expected to be
released on or about 23 August 2016.
