PASSING OF THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD

It is with great sadness that the board of Life Healthcare advises
of the death of Professor Jakes Gerwel. Professor Gerwel passed
away in hospital in the early hours of this morning.

Professor Gerwel served as a non-executive director of the company
and was the chairman of the board since 2003. He made a
significant contribution to the company and was instrumental in
both the leveraged buy out which saw the company being acquired by
a black empowered consortium led by Brimstone Investment
Corporation Limited and Mvelaphanda Strategic Investments (Pty)
Ltd from African Oxygen Limited as well as the re-listing of the
company in June 2010.

The board and management of Life Healthcare wish to extend their
heartfelt condolences to the family of Professor Gerwel and pay
tribute to him for his leadership, integrity and contribution to
the company and to society. He will be missed.
