KIO - Kumba Iron Ore Limited - Executive Appointments Kumba Iron Ore Limited A member of the Anglo American plc group (Incorporated in the Republic of South Africa) (Registration number 2005/015852/06) JSE Share code: KIO ISIN: ZAE000085346 ("Kumba") EXECUTIVE APPOINTMENTS Kumba Iron Ore ("Kumba") announces the following changes to its senior executive team: Ras Myburgh, Chief Executive Officer will, as part of Kumba`s efforts to continue to support Eskom in developing solutions to meet South Africa`s energy needs, begin a secondment with Eskom by assuming an important responsibility of advising the utility on its long term coal sourcing strategy and its implementation for all of Eskom`s power stations. Ras is well positioned to fulfil this important role given his previous experience with Eskom and as Managing Director of Kumba Resources` coal division. Chris Griffith is appointed Chief Executive Officer of Kumba Iron Ore. Chris will join Kumba from Anglo Platinum, where he is currently the executive responsible for all joint venture operations. These changes will take effect on 1 July 2008. Ras will resign as CEO and director and Chris will be appointed as CEO and director. Lazarus Zim, Chairman of Kumba Iron Ore, said: "The Board greatly appreciates Ras Myburgh`s leadership and invaluable contribution to the establishment of Kumba Iron Ore and we wish him well with the challenges presented by addressing South Africa`s energy needs. This role represents Anglo Platinum`s executive management interests in operating joint ventures, including BRPM, Modikwa, Kroondal, Marikana, Mototolo and Pandora. Prior to taking up this position in 2005, Chris was General Manager of the BRPM (Bafokeng Rasimone Platinum Mine) JV, an operation he led through the ramp-up to full production. Chris began his mining career at the Amandelbult platinum mine in 1990, reaching the position of General Manager in 2000.
