In accordance with DTR5 of the Disclosure and Transparency Rules, Lonmin Plc    
received notification on 25 January from The Capital Group Companies, Inc       
("CGC"), on behalf of its affiliates, including Capital Research and Management 
Company, Capital International Inc, and Capital International Limited ("the     
Companies") that as at 18 January 2007 their interest in the Company`s share    
capital has decreased to 10,635,245 ordinary shares of US$1 each representing   
6.89% of the total voting rights and capital in the Company.                    
The interest in the relevant share capital of Lonmin arises by virtue of        
holdings attributed to the Companies.  These holdings form part of funds managed
on behalf of investment clients by the Companies.
