In accordance with Section 198-202 of the UK Companies Act 1985, Lonmin Plc was 
notified on 21 March 2006 by The Capital Group Companies, Inc ("CGC"), on behalf
of its affiliates, including Capital Research and Management Company, Capital   
Guardian Trust Company, Capital International Inc, and Capital International    
Limited ("the Companies") that as at 20 March 2006 their interest in the        
Company"s share capital has increased to 5,946,349 ordinary shares of US$1 each 
representing 4.17% of the issued share capital of the Company.                  
The interest in the relevant share capital of Lonmin arises by virtue of        
holdings attributed to the Companies.  These holdings form part of funds managed
on behalf of investment clients by the Companies.
