CHANGE TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS                                                
FirstRand wishes to advise that Mr V W Bartlett retired as an executive director
on 1 July 2004.                                                                 
He will remain a director on various FirstRand Group boards, including the

OUTsurance boards in a non-executive capacity and will also serve on a number of
board committees.
