Discovery Holdings today announced the appointment of Dr Brian Brink a non-     
executive director, with effect from 19 February 2004.                          
Dr Brink is Senior Vice President: Health at Anglo American Group companies,    
where he acts as an advisor to the Group on the funding and delivery of         
healthcare benefits and also on occupational and community health issues.       
Dr Brink is the immediate past Chairman of the Board of Healthcare Funders of   
Southern Africa ("BHF") and has been nominated by the BHF to serve on the       
Private Health Care Forum, an initiative seeking to protect and sustain the     
excellence of private healthcare in South Africa. He has also been actively     
involved in HIV/AIDS issues since the mid-1980s, guiding businesses" response to
the epidemic both within Anglo American and on a broader scale. Dr Brink advises
the Nelson Mandela Foundation on the strategic response to HIV/Aids in South    
Africa and also represents the worldwide private sector as its alternate member 
on the Board of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria.                  
Adrian Gore, CEO of Discovery said: "Brian Brink brings to Discovery 20 years   
experience in the South African healthcare environment. He has grappled with the
complexities of healthcare delivery, containing healthcare costs to ensure      
affordability and sustainability, and the implementation of different healthcare
funding models. We are extremely pleased to have him on the board and there is  
no doubt that he will contribute significantly to Discovery.
