TRADING UPDATE                                                                  
Johannesburg, 17th November 2003                                                
Following the trading update released on SENS by Assmang Limited on Friday 14th 
November 2003 shareholders are advised that, as a result of the appreciation of 
the rand against the United States dollar, the earnings of the Group for the    
half-year to 31 December 2003 are expected to be substantially below the        
headline earnings and earnings per share reported for the corresponding half-   
year to 31 December 2002.  The above forecast earnings information has not been 
reviewed or reported on by the Company"s auditors.  Accordingly, shareholders   
are advised to exercise caution in their share dealings until the release of the
interim results, which is expected to be published in March 2004.
