Joint Press Statement - Discovery Health and the Council for Medical

Schemes.

Last night, 25 October 2001, a meeting was held between the Chairman of the
Council for Medical Schemes, Professor Nikki Padayachee, the Registrar of
Medical Schemes, Mr. Patrick Masobe, the CEO of Discovery Holdings Mr.
Adrian Gore and the Principal Officer of Discovery Health Medical Scheme,
Mr. Shaun Matisonn.  The meeting was held in a cordial, co-operative and
constructive spirit.

During the meeting the substantive issues, particularly with regard to the
approval of a subordinated loan to be issued by Discovery Holdings and the
Discovery Health Medical Scheme, were clearly defined.  Each issue was
debated and either agreed, or a process agreed to, along with time frames to
ensure that each step can be completed timeously.

This is a positive step in ensuring a resolution to the debate between
Discovery Health and the Council for Medical Schemes.
