Anglo American plc draws attention to an announcement issued by Anglo American Platinum
Limited, the text of which is set out below:
Anglo American Platinum update
Anglo American Platinum Limited ('Anglo American Platinum') is providing an update in respect
to its Rustenburg operations, following the resumption of those operations on Tuesday 18
September 2012.
Anglo American Platinum is aware of increased tensions in the Rustenburg area over the
weekend and is continuing to engage with the authorities with regard to providing an increased
level of security in the affected areas, in order to provide further support for many of its striking
employees who want to return to work.
The employee attendance rate at the company's Rustenburg mining operations remains below
20%, notwithstanding the great lengths to which the company has gone to encourage striking
employees back to work. As previously stated, disciplinary action commenced on 27
September. Employees who are on strike have been informed that they must present
themselves at disciplinary hearings, which will take place tomorrow, Tuesday 2 October, to
make representations as to their non-attendance to avoid dismissal. The company will also be
left with no alternative but to dismiss, in their absence, all employees who do not present
themselves.
