APPOINTMENT OF INDEPENDENT NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Pick n Pay Chairman, Gareth Ackerman, is pleased to advise that the board has
elected John Gildersleeve as an independent non-executive director of Pick n Pay
Stores Limited, effective 21 October 2013. This will be ratified at the next
shareholders’ meeting.

John is based in the UK, and has a wealth of international retail, FMCG,
investment, commercial and property experience.

He is currently Director and Chairman of British Land PLC, Deputy Chairman of
Carphone Warehouse Group PLC, Chairman of Freston Road Ventures LLP and
Director and Deputy Chairman of TalkTalk Telecom Group PLC.

John was formerly Director and Chairman of Carphone Warehouse Group PLC,
Director and Chairman of EMI Group PLC, Director and Chairman of Gallaher
PLC, Director of Lloyds TSB Bank PLC, Director and Chairman of New Look Retail
Group, Director of Tesco PLC (Commercial Director) and Director of Vodafone
Group PLC.
