STATUS OF REGISTRATION OF SCHOOLS
Following the publication of the interim results where it was noted that certain schools still had not
been registered with the Gauteng Department of Education (“GDE”), the Board of Directors can
confirm that the schools have either been registered with the GDE or the registration has been
submitted as below:
SCHOOL REGISTRATION STATUS STATUS/DATE OF

PLG Midview The registration file has been accepted for Submitted on
provisional registration by the GDE. However, after 23/10/2018
an assessment of the long-term viability of the school,
a decision has been taken to close this school at the

PLG Carlswald The registration file has been accepted by the GDE. Submitted on
23/10/2018
PLG Sanrock The registration file was submitted to the Limpopo Submitted during
Education Department and the registration required 2019
the property to be rezoned, which rezoning was
received on 21 November 2019. However, the
Limpopo Education Department has indicated that
their paperwork has changed and the Company is
waiting for the new details. Once the file is submitted
again, the Education Department will make a
scheduled visit to the school to assess and give input
on any area that they feel needs attention prior to
awarding the registration number.
Shareholders should take note that the school registration process is open from January to April each
year. Whilst the South African Schools’ Act requires a school to be registered before it is opened, the
Department of Education requires the provincial department to, inter alia, assess the school’s
operations, which includes assessing the teaching staff. This presents an inherent conflict in practice.
Shareholders are also advised that the process and requirements of the Department of Education
approval has changed over the past couple of years, which now includes zoning, amongst other
matters. The changes to the registration requirements are an industry issue.
Shareholders are also advised that the headmasters of all the various schools (registered or pending
registration) attend the quarterly GDE meetings. The GDE also conducts regular school inspections
and the remaining items to get the schools registered are being addressed in accordance with the
requirements of the GDE. The headmaster of PLG Sanrock is also in regular communication with the
Limpopo Education Department. The Company will be submitting the outstanding documentation in
the open period commencing from January 2020 and expects to finalise the registration of PLG
Carlswald, PLG Greenhills, PLG Raslouw and PLG Sanrock by April 2020.
The Board also advises that Umalusi registration is only required for matriculants to write examinations
on site and register as an exam centre. The Company received confirmation that Green Status had
been awarded for the three schools which applied for Umalusi registration, as previously announced.
It is important to note that the going concern assumption partly relies on the registration of the
remaining 4 schools as detailed in the interim results announcement. However, the Company
continues to work constructively with the respective Departments of Education and complies with all
the regular requirements during the year as mentioned earlier. There has been no indication that
registration of the remainder of the schools will not be achieved by April 2020 and a further
announcement will be made on or before 30 April 2020 in this regard.
