TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFER                                                      
In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4 Anglo American plc announces that on 17  
August 2010, 501,275 shares were transferred out of the Company`s holding of    
treasury shares in order to satisfy various awards made under the Company`s     
employee share schemes.                                                         
Following the transfer, Anglo American plc has a total of 23,681,086 ordinary   
shares held in treasury and a total of 1,319,250,202 ordinary shares in issue,  
excluding treasury shares.
