Notification made in accordance with Disclosure Rule 3.1.4R(1)(a) of the        
Disclosure and Transparency Rules.                                              
The Company was notified on 1 July 2009 by the trustee of the British American  
Tobacco Employee Share Ownership Plan that on 1 July 2009 the following         
executive directors and other persons discharging managerial responsibility     
(together the "Participants") had purchased ordinary shares of 25p each in      
British American Tobacco p.l.c. (the "Shares") by way of the Partnership Share  
Scheme at a price of 1685 pence per Share.                                      
The number of Shares purchased by each Participant, together with their         
interests following the transaction, are as follows:
