FATALITY AT HARMONY`S DOORNKOP PLANT                                            
Johannesburg. Tuesday, 25 August 2009. Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited      
(Harmony) regretfully announces that a conveyor belt accident at its Doornkop   
Plant yesterday resulted in the death of an employee.                           
Management together with the Department of Mineral Resources commenced          
investigations yesterday.                                                       
Harmony`s Chief Executive Officer, Graham Briggs says, "We express our sincere  
condolences to the family of the deceased. Doornkop Plant has had an excellent  
safety record and has been fatality-free since April 2006, prior to this        
unfortunate incident. We have rolled-out effective behavior-based safety        
programmes at all operations, but we will continue doing more to improve safety 
throughout the company. "
