PDMR/DIRECTORS’ INTERESTS

Anglo American plc announces the following conditional awards of ordinary shares in the capital of
the Company (“Shares”) under the Company’s Long Term Incentive Plan (“LTIP”).

The LTIP provides directors and senior employees with shares awarded on a conditional basis as
determined by the Remuneration Committee of the Board. The current award will vest in 2017,
subject to the satisfaction of performance conditions, and the shares will then be subject to a
further holding period of two years and will be released in 2019.

In accordance with the determination of the Remuneration Committee, and in accordance with the
rules of the Long Term Incentive Plan, the Company made the following awards of Shares to
directors and PDMRs on 7 March 2014:
