Shams served on Coronation’s Board for 16 years, 12 of which were in the position of Chairperson. He was an industry icon and a highly regarded, respected director who served on the boards of several South African-listed companies throughout his long career. His contribution to our business has been invaluable, as he added not only the weight of his 47 years’ business experience, of which 30 years were in asset management, but also his innate wisdom, integrity and unfailing sense of justice, which was always tempered with kindness. He leaves behind a proud legacy of strong and principled leadership, and he will be sorely missed by his fellow directors and all who knew him at Coronation. The Board extends their deepest sympathies and condolences to Shams’ family. The Board will convene shortly to discuss changes to the Board and its committees, which changes will be communicated to shareholders in due course.
