FIRST ZERO CARBON EMISSION SOLUTION FOR COLD CHAIN LOGISTICS AND N1
ROUTE EXPANSION FOR LNG BETWEEN JOHANNESBURG AND CAPE TOWN

Emerging domestic natural gas and helium producer Renergen is proud to be a participant in the
South African Investment Conference for the second year running. The summary of today’s
announcements at the SA Investment Conference 2020 are:

    • Developed a zero-emission solution for the cold chain logistics industry, deploying liquid
        natural gas (LNG);
    •   Over 50% of the total investment having been made;
    •   Over 100 new jobs having been created;
    • Strategic tie-up with Total South Africa on LNG distribution on the N3 between
        Johannesburg and Durban and now includes the N1 between Johannesburg and Cape
        Town; and
    • Major gas discovery in December 2019 with helium concentrations of 12%.

In 2019 dual-listed Renergen pledged to invest up to R750 million (AUD$70 million) in the
construction of South Africa’s first and only commercial onshore liquid natural gas (LNG) plant,
and the only Sub-Saharan African helium liquefier.

This year, Renergen announces two major milestones:

Firstly, Renergen and Henred Fruehauf, one of the largest trailer manufacturers in South Africa,
have developed an innovative concept which utilises the fact that LNG is stored at ultra-low
temperatures in the truck’s tank and must be brought to room temperature before being
consumed in the engine. In heating the gas, the cold energy of the gas is transferred to the
refrigeration compartment of the trailer, providing free cooling and reducing combined
greenhouse gas emissions by up to 96 tonnes per annum per truck. The added benefit is a
reduction in running costs of up to 23% of the total fuel bill consumed by a truck using standard
refrigeration technology.

Commenting on the collaboration with Renergen, Eduan Naude Concept Manager at Henred
Fruehauf, “This is a unique solution, and gives customers the potential for huge savings.”

The second milestone is the opening of another major transport corridor in South Africa for LNG
in conjunction with Total: the N1 route between Johannesburg and Cape Town in 2021. This route
is particularly exciting, as it carries a large proportion of refrigerated trucks instrumental in moving
perishable goods from the Cape to Johannesburg. The high usage of refrigerated trucks along
the N1 has led to the collaboration between Renergen and Henred Fruehauf.

Stefano Marani, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Renergen said “The opening
of the N1 highway between Johannesburg and Cape Town and the addition of a filling route for
LNG is a major milestone and Renergen is looking forward to supplying LNG along the route in
2021.

“This innovative collaboration between Renergen and Henred Fruehauf highlights the
commitment of both companies to clean energy and showcases what South Africa has to offer
the world. We look forward to rolling out this cold chain solution to our customers across the
country and look to other companies globally to begin adopting this innovative technology to
reduce the world’s global carbon footprint.”

About Renergen
Renergen is an emerging producer of helium and liquefied natural gas (LNG), with existing production and
sales of gas to buses in the Free State. Renergen was listed on Johannesburg’s AltX securities exchange in
June 2015 as South Africa’s first listed alternative and renewable energy company. Renergen listed on the
Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) on the 6th June 2019, with the code RLT. Renergen’s principal asset
is its 100% shareholding in Tetra4, which holds the first and only onshore petroleum production right in
South Africa, giving it a first-mover advantage on the distribution of domestic natural gas, along with the
potential to become one of the major global helium suppliers, making South Africa only the 8th country in
the world to export this extremely rare gas.
