Section 54 Notices of orders at Barberton Mines and Evander Gold Mines

Pan African shareholders are advised that on Thursday, 13 November 2014, operations at Barberton
Mines (“Barberton”) were suspended by the Mine Health and Safety Inspectorate (“MHSI”) of the
South African Department of Mineral Resources. This was as a result of a Section 54 notice of orders
that was issued after deviations were identified by the MHSI in respect of certain operating
procedures and administrative processes pertaining to the Fairview lamp room, self-rescuers and gas
monitors.

Management, together with the mine’s Safety and Health Committee (“SHC”), have since corrected
the deviations, and action plans were presented to the MHSI. On Wednesday, 19 November 2014,
the Section 54 notice of orders was set aside.

On Tuesday, 18 November 2014, following an unplanned/unannounced site visit to Evander Gold
Mines (“Evander”), the MHSI issued a Section 54 notice of orders for similar deviations in the lamp
room, suspending all underground operations. These deviations were attended to and subsequently
on Thursday, 20 November 2014, the MHSI set this notice of orders aside.

The issuance of these orders will impact gold production at Barberton and Evander for the month of
November 2014, which is not quantified at this stage.

Together with all stakeholders, including the SHC, employee representatives and the communities in
which it operates, Pan African continually strives to reduce accidents and to address any health and
safety shortcomings, in an effort to operate the mines safely in a conducive environment.

Pan African remains committed to the health and safety of everybody involved in its operations.
