FATAL ACCIDENT AT BUFFELSFONTEIN GOLD MINE

Village regrets to announce the death of an employee, resulting from a rock burst incident, related to a seismic event
that occurred on Monday morning 17 December 2012, at its Buffelsfontein operation number 2 shaft near Stilfontein.

The Board and management of Village express their deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the
deceased.

The Department of Mineral Resources (“DMR") inspectorate in the North West Province was alerted and an initial
investigation has been conducted. The inspectorate has issued a Section 54 instruction requiring that all work areas at
the Buffels number 2 shaft be stopped, with the remainder of the mine operating as normal. The management of
Buffels is working closely with the DMR to minimize the duration of the stoppage and the impact on production and
also prevent deterioration of working place conditions at Buffels, while a full investigation continues.
