Following a book building process jointly run by Absa Capital (the investment banking division of Absa Bank Limited, affiliated with Barclays) and Investec Capital Markets (a division of Investec Bank Limited), 5,480,778 preference shares have been placed with selected investors. In aggregate, R426,020,873.94 in cash was raised at an issue price per preference share of R77.73, including accrued dividends. The additional preference shares, which will rank pari passu with the preference shares already in issue, will be issued and listed on the JSE, from commencement of business on Friday, 23 March 2012. The capital raised through the issue, after deduction of costs and accrued dividends, will be applied towards the subscription by ABIL of ordinary shares in its wholly owned subsidiary, African Bank Limited.
