SKJ - Sekunjalo - Sekunjalo receives global recognition by World Economic Forum SEKUNJALO INVESTMENTS LIMITED - MEDIA RELEASE (Incorporated in the Republic of South Africa) (Registration number: 1996/006093/06) ISIN: ZAE000017893 Share Code: SKJ ("Sekunjalo") Sekunjalo Receives Global Recognition by World Economic Forum (WEF) Sekunjalo Investments Limited received a major honour when it was selected as the only South African company to be a Founding Member of the Top 125 WEF New World Champion companies on Saturday 8 September in Dalian, China. The World Economic Forum (WEF) in partnership with the Government of the People`s Republic of China hosted this Inaugural Annual Meeting of the New Champions. At the gathering of founding members of fast growing "Global Growth Companies", Sekunjalo Investments Ltd, whilst the only South African company to receive this honour, was one of five companies on the African continent. 40% of the companies in the Top 125 were from Asia, 26 % from Europe, 20 % from North and South America and 14 % from Africa and the Middle East. Dr Iqbal Surve, Executive Chairperson of Sekunjalo, attended the meeting in Dalian to represent the company. Government leaders, including the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, and the leadership of some of the world`s leading cities joined corporate leaders from global corporations at this forum, which has already been labelled the "Summer Davos". In his opening remarks, Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chair of the WEF described the New Champion companies as a "very special group of companies that have not really been understood". The New Champions are regarded as a new generation of companies which have demonstrated that they have what it takes, namely the essential `DNA`, to fundamentally alter the "global competitive landscape" by becoming leaders in the global economy. The selection which followed a meticulous process, was based on a number of factors, including the business model, growth record and the quality of the executive leadership of the selected companies. Commenting on the award, Sekunjalo CEO, Mo Kajee, expressed his delight at this honour. "To be a founding member of the New Champions indicates that the WEF has recognised that Sekunjalo is an innovative company, with an excellent business model and with outstanding executive leadership. The New Champions network presents an excellent forum for global growth. Such companies face a number of challenges like building brands, managing regulatory risks as they enter new markets, securing finance for growth and plotting a strategic course through a complex global environment. Access to this powerful network will further facilitate the empowerment of Sekunjalo as a South African BEE company and its ability to extend its sphere of influence in the future - this time on a global stage." Sekunjalo has received numerous awards for business and empowerment in the past but this is the first time the company has been selected to a global forum of this stature, one which will facilitate its ability to operate on a global platform. Sekunjalo will participate in future meetings of the New Champions. The next meeting is scheduled to take place in Tianjin, China in September 2008.
