UPDATED TRADING STATEMENT AND CAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENT                           
In terms of Listings Requirements of the JSE Securities Exchange South Africa,  
PPC issued a trading statement on 15 March 2004 advising that its half-year     
financial results to 31 March 2004 were expected to be materially higher than   
those of the prior comparable period (materially being an increase of between   
10% and 30% as defined in the JSE Listing Requirements).                        
Regional cement industry sales volumes for the month of March 2004 reflected    
growth well ahead of expectations, with an increase of 25% over those of March  
2003.                                                                           
This larger than expected surge in demand has resulted in improved sales for the
half-year period to March 2004, and accordingly PPC advises that the increase in
both its headline earnings and attributable earnings per share over those of the
prior comparable period will be in excess of 30%.                               
As this updated trading statement has not been reviewed and reported on by the  
company"s auditors, shareholders are advised to continue exercising caution when
dealing in PPC shares until the release of the interim results announcement     
which is expected to be published on or about 6 May 2004.
