Sekunjalo Investments Limited has won the prestigious "Top BEE Market Performer 
Award 2003" at a glittering Business Map Foundation function last night.  The   
award was handed to the CEO of Sekunjalo, Dr Iqbal Surv by the Minister of     
Trade and Industry, Alec Erwin.                                                 
The BusinessMap Foundation Awards are decided upon by an independent panel of   
business people. They are intended to give recognition to excellence in         
empowerment organisations and companies.                                        
Commenting on the award, Dr Surv said that Sekunjalo was very honoured that    
they had received this award.  "It has come after a turbulent period in the     
history of Sekunjalo.  It is a recognition of the efforts and commitment of our 
directors, management and employees, without whom this success would not have   
been possible.  This award is for them."                                        
Dr Wallace Mgoqi, the Chairperson of Sekunjalo, said that the award was a sign  
that Sekunjalo had weathered the storm and had come of age.  "Sekunjalo has     
matured as a company and are very proud that this has been recognised by an     
organisation like Business Map."                                                
Sekunjalo Directors will celebrate this award with Mayor of Cape Town, Nomaindia
Mfeketo and Minister of Finance and Economic Development of the Western Cape,   
Ebrahim Rassool this evening.  Dr Surv said the celebration was also one for   
the province, as Sekunjalo was born, had teethed and grown up in the province.  
"We felt we had to share this success with our colleagues in the city. We are   
confident that we will go from strength to strength in the future."
