(Reg. no. 1996/006093/06)

Cape Town, 5 February 2001 - Sekunjalo Investment Holdings (SIH), controlling shareholder of the Sekunjalo group, is to receive a R70 million capital injection from a broad-based empowerment consortium, subject to certain conditions. The investment will be the first step in a proposed recapitalisation and restructuring of the group.
The consortium, which includes Mvelaphanda Holdings, the Women's Development Bank, the Makana Investment Trust, and the MK Veterans Investment Company, is being led by Sekunjalo Healthcare director Dr Vincent Msibi. The
R70 million, raised by the empowerment consortium on a non-recourse debt basis, will be invested in cumulative convertible/redeemable debentures in SIH, which will give the consortium effective control of the Sekunjalo group.
Msibi said today the consortium saw considerable value in Sekunjalo's existing investments in healthcare and fishing and believed that the group also had other interesting growth opportunities which a recapitalisation would enable it to exploit. He noted that Sekunjalo's exposure to LeisureNet, currently in liquidation, had been adequately ringfenced and was a thing of the past as far as the new investors were concerned. He also noted that the Gauteng-based empowerment companies saw this as an appropriate vehicle to strengthen ties with the Cape-based Sekunjalo.
"The board of SIH will be reconstituted following the investment and will then, in conjunction with the existing Sekunjalo board, finalise plans for the future. A detailed announcement in this regard will be made shortly," he said. For further information, call Dr Vincent Msibi on 083-252-1329
