Board of Directors – Update
Following the Development Bank of Southern Africa Annual General Meeting held on
27 September 2019, the following board appointments were made:
- Mr. E. Gondongwana has been appointed as the Chair of the Development Bank
of Southern Africa Board with effect from 27 September 2019. Mr. Gondongwana
joined the DBSA board on 1 April 2019.
Mr. Gondongwana has an MSc in Financial Economics from the University of
London. He is currently a non-executive director of the South African
National Housing Finance Corporation, Mondi PLC, National Home Builders
Registration Council, Zabezolo Leisure and Services, Zabezolo Investments,
Zabezolo Resources, Zabezolo Properties, Zabezolo Group and the New
Development Bank.
He has previously held roles with the South African Economic Development
Ministry and the South African Department of Public Enterprises.
- Prof. M Swilling has been appointed as Deputy Chair of the Development Bank of
Southern Africa Board with effect from 27 September 2019. Prof M Swilling was
re-apppointed to the DBSA board on 1 August 2017. He has been a Distinguished
Professor of Sustainable Development, School of Public Leadership,
Stellenbosch University since 2014.
He holds a PhD from University of Warwick. Prof. M. Swilling is an international
expert in sustainable development, with over thirty years experience in
‘societal transitions’, initially with respect to democratization and
governance, and more recently within the wider discipline of sustainability
studies.
In recent years, he has increased his participation in international research
collaborations, particularly via UN institutions and several Scientific
Committees of international conferences.
- Ms M. Janse van Rensburg been appointed as Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee
of the Development Bank of Southern Africa Board effective from 27 September
2019. Ms Janse van Rensburg was re-appointed to the Board of the Development
Bank of Southern Africa on 1 April 2019.
She is an experienced Chartered Accountant. She has attended an Executive
Programme in Strategy and Organization at Stanford University of Business,
USA. She is an experienced director having served in organisations in both the
public and private sector.
Currently, she is a non-executive director of Sephaku Holdings Ltd, and Etion
Ltd. Non-executive member of the International and Specialised Finance Credit
Committee of First Rand Bank and Credit Investment Committee of Ashburton.
She previously served on various boards in the public and private sector and
has chaired Audit and Risk Committees.
The Board remains properly constituted in terms of the DBSA Act (13 of 1997, as
amended) and can continue to perform and exercise its fiduciary obligations
effectively.
