SENS ANNOUNCEMENT
WEEKLY BOND AUCTION LEVELS AND ASSOCIATED BIDDING AND MARKET
MAKING OBLIGATIONS FOR 2021/22
On 24 February 2021, the Minister of Finance tabled the 2021 Budget and highlighted better than
expected revenue collection compared to the 2020 Medium Term Budget Policy Statement,
resulting in an increase in government’s cash balances which part of will be utilised to reduce
borrowing levels in Treasury bills and domestic long-term loans.
To this end, The National Treasury would like to announce the reduction in weekly nominal auction
levels in line with 2021/22 auction settlement dates:
• The fixed-rate government bond auction amount will be decreased by nominal
R1 800 million from R6 600 million to R4 800 million, effective from auction to be
conducted on 30 March 2021.
• The weekly inflation-linked government bond auction amount will be decreased by
nominal R800 million from R2 000 million to R1 200 million effective from auction
to be conducted on 09 April 2021.
• The fixed-rate non-competitive bond auction amount will be 50 per cent of the new
auction levels - split between the Electronic Trading Platform (ETP) and primary
auction at 60 per cent and 40 per cent, respectively.
