Trading statement

In terms of the JSE Limited Listings Requirements, a company is required to publish a trading statement
as soon as it becomes aware that the financial results for the next period to be reported on will differ by
at least 20% or more from those of the corresponding prior period.

For the year ended 31 August 2022 shareholders are advised that:

    • headline earnings per share of between 357,8 cents and 422,9 cents, corresponding to a
decrease of between 35% and 45% in comparison to 650,6 cents reported for the full year
ended 31 August 2021 (“Previous Corresponding Period”); and
    • earnings per share of between 360,4 cents and 425,9 cents, corresponding to a decrease of
between 35% and 45% in comparison to 655,2 cents reported for the full year ended 31 August
2021 for the Previous Corresponding Period

The decrease is mainly due to a severely distressed global economy, the negative impact of the July
2021 looting and insurrection, combined with weak volume growth, subdued selling price inflation and
reduced consumer discretionary spend.

The financial results for the period ended 31 August 2022 will be published on or about 20 October
2022.
