CREDIT EVENT NOTICE

FirstRand Bank Limited hereby gives notice in accordance with:

   1. Condition 4.11 of The FirstRand Bank Limited ZAR30
      000 000 000 Note Programme;
   2. Condition 4 of The FirstRand Bank Limited ZAR15 000 000
      000 Note Programme;

        of the occurrence of a Credit Event on notes issued with
        the reference entity “African Bank Limited” as set out
        in paragraph 54(j) and paragraph 30 of related
        Applicable Pricing Supplement. The Credit event is
        Bankruptcy, specifically sub-paragraph (f) of the
        definitions (Bankruptcy) in the Note Programme and
        section 4.2 of the ISDA Credit Derivatives Definitions.
        This information has been published by the South African
        Reserve Bank and The Star and Business Day newspapers
        which fulfills the requirement of Publically Available
        Information under the conditions to settlement.

Investors are advised that the Cash Settlement Amount of each
note will be determined in accordance with paragraph 51(z) or
32(e) of the relevant Applicable Pricing Supplement or as
agreed between the Issuer and each Noteholder. The Event
Determination Date is 11 August 2014.
