FATAL ACCIDENT AT BLYVOORUITZICHT GOLD MINE
Village regrets to announce the death of an employee, resulting from a fall of ground incident, related to a
seismic event that occurred on Saturday evening 1 December 2012 at its Blyvoor operation near
Carletonville.
The Board and management of Village express their deepest condolences to the family, friends and
colleagues of the deceased.
The Department of Mineral Resources (“DMR’’) inspectorate in the Gauteng Province was alerted and an
initial investigation has been conducted. The inspectorate has issued a Section 54 instruction in relation to
specific working areas impacted by geological structures, with the remainder of the mine operating as per
normal. The management of Blyvoor is working closely with the DMR to minimize the duration of the
stoppage on production at Blyvoor, while a full investigation continues.
