PASSING OF DEPUTY CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

It is with great sadness that Absa Group Limited’s board of directors (“the Board”) informs
shareholders, in accordance with paragraph 3.59(b) of the JSE Listings Requirements, of the
passing of Mr Peter Matlare, the Group’s Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Executive: Absa
Regional Operations on 7 March 2021 after contracting Covid-19.

On behalf of the Board, we express our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Peter’s wife
Nomvula and to his daughters.

Peter joined the Board as an independent non-executive director in December 2011, before
becoming executive director and the Group’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer with responsibility
for its rest of Africa banking operations (subsequently Absa Regional Operations) with effect from
1 August 2016.
