TISO BLACKSTAR ACHIEVES LEVEL 1 BROAD-BASED BLACK ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT
(“B-BBEE”) STATUS FOR THE GROUP’S CORE BUSINESS

Tiso Blackstar is proud to announce that Blackstar Holdings Group Proprietary Limited (“BHG”) has
successfully achieved a level 1 B-BBEE contributor status (from a level 2 in the prior year) in
accordance with the Department of Trade and Industry’s B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice.

BHG is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tiso Blackstar. BHG houses the Group’s core businesses which
consist of the Hirt & Carter Group, Media, Broadcast and Content.

A number of significant South African brands fall under BHG’s, black-owned level 1 contributor status
including:

     -    The Hirt & Carter Group:
          Hirt & Carter, Uniprint, Triumph Printing, Paton Tupper, Silo, Hirt & Carter Software Solutions,
          Hive Connect, Bates Printing.

     -    Media:
          The Sunday Times, Business Day, Financial Mail, Sowetan, Sunday World, Daily Dispatch,
          The Herald, SA Home Owner, TimesLIVE, BusinessLIVE and SowetanLIVE.

     -    Broadcast and Content:
          Empire Entertainment, Ochre Media, Gallo MusicPublishers, Business Day TV, Ignition, the
          Home Channel, Rise FM and Vuma FM.

The improvement in BHG’s B-BBEE status is reflective of Tiso Blackstar’s ongoing commitment to
making a positive contribution to transformation, recognising it as critical for the sustainability of its
core operations situated in South Africa.
