He will assume the role of the Group CEO from 01 July 2022. In accordance with paragraph 3.59 of the Listings Requirements of the JSE Limited ("JSE"), Serame has been appointed executive director of Telkom and its subsidiaries with effect from 01 October 2021. Shareholders are referred to the SENS announcement “Telkom Group Chief Executive Officer to step down on 30 June 2022” where the Board announced the planned departure of the current Group CEO, Sipho Maseko. In line with the Board’s leadership transition plan, Sipho and Serame will work together for the remainder of Sipho’s tenure to ensure orderly transition of the Group CEO Designate and the stability of the business. During this transition period, Serame will continue to have oversight of the Telkom Consumer Business. A recruitment process for his successor at the Telkom Consumer Business will commence immediately. Serame joined Telkom on 01 June 2018. He has extensive experience in telecommunications having spent approximately 10 years at MTN where he held several senior roles which included Chief Operating Officer and later CEO of MTN Ghana. As CEO of the Telkom Consumer Business, the Mobile business customer base grew three-folds to 15 million and its revenue almost doubled to R20 billion within a 3-year period. Under his leadership, Telkom Mobile has become the third largest mobile business in South Africa. The Board, Group CEO and the Group CEO Designate remain committed to structurally separate Telkom and unlock value for shareholders.
