MURRAY & ROBERTS CEMENTATION LIMITED (MRC) WORK STOPPAGE AT NORTHAM’S
BOOYSENDAL NORTH MINE (BOOYSENDAL)
Northam confirms that approximately 750 employees at the Booysendal mine in
Mpumalanga Province, embarked on an unprotected work stoppage with effect from
Monday night, 26 March 2018.
The MRC employees had been approached by Northam to become full-time employees in a
move for Booysendal to become an owner-operating mine, which will result in them
becoming permanent Northam employees. The affected employees are demanding end-of-
contract termination packages from MRC.
Both MRC and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU), the
representative union, have been in consultation with the affected employees. MRC has
applied for an urgent interdict to effect a return to work.
Shareholders will be kept informed of further developments.
