In terms of paragraph 3.59 (b) of the Listing Requirements of the JSE Limited, Sappi
shareholders are advised of the following change to the Board of directors of Sappi (the
“Board”) with effect from 31 December 2017.

Dr Rudolf Thummer will retire as independent non-executive director after serving for 7
years. Dr Thummer was appointed to the Board in February 2010 and also served on the
Social, Ethics, Transformation and Sustainability Committee.

The Board extends its gratitude to Dr Thummer for his contribution and support to the
company.

Sir Nigel Rudd, Sappi’s chairman, commented : “Rudolf has been a valued colleague for
many years. I would like to thank him for the significant contribution which he has made to
Sappi since he was appointed to the Board in 2010. He added a fresh perspective to Board
discussions and his technical knowledge and experience supported the growth of Sappi
during a crucial period of the company’s history.”
