UPDATE ON AVIAN INFLUENZA AND PRODUCTION VOLUMES

Sovereign shareholders (“Shareholders”) are referred to the announcement published by Sovereign
on SENS on 14 September 2017, whereby Shareholders were informed that Sovereign had detected
avian influenza (“AI”) at a single layer house on a farm that forms part of Sovereign’s broader
Uitenhage operations (“Affected House”).

Following enquiries by certain Shareholders and in order to avoid market speculation, Shareholders
are hereby informed that the AI outbreak was successfully contained to the Affected House and there
have been no further incidents of AI at Sovereign’s operations.

As a precautionary measure, in order to prevent the spread of AI beyond the Affected House,
approximately 3 800 birds in a second layer house neighbouring the Affected House were culled. The
cumulative loss of production to date represents approximately 1% of Sovereign’s total production pipeline.
