APPOINTMENT OF INDEPENDENT NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Pick n Pay today announced the re-appointment of Alex Mathole as an independent non-
executive director to the board of Pick n Pay Stores Limited.

Alex served on the board from October 2010 to the end of February 2013, when she
resigned because she was taking up an executive position at Tiger Brands Limited that
could potentially have led to a conflict of interests.

Alex is now with the FirstRand group and we are delighted to announce that she will be
re-joining the Pick n Pay board with immediate effect.

An admitted attorney with extensive experience in legal and regulatory risk
management, Alex has oversight responsibility for prudential and financial crime
regulatory compliance, market conduct, ethics and business conduct for the FirstRand
group.
