He will also serve as a member on the Audit and Risk Management Committee from this date. Dr. Lategan graduated with Bachelor of Accountancy, Honours in Accountancy, Masters in Commerce and Doctorate in Commerce degrees from the University of Stellenbosch and Johannesburg. He also qualified as a Chartered Accountant (SA) in 1983 and obtained an Advanced Diploma in Banking from the University of Johannesburg. He joined Rand Merchant Bank’s Structured Finance team in 1994 and in 1999, following the formation of the FirstRand Banking Group, became the Chief Executive Officer of the Corporate and Commercial Banking division of First National Bank. In 2005 Dr. Lategan was appointed as the Chairman of the Divisional Board of First National Bank and served on various other FirstRand group committees. He retired from the FirstRand Group at the end of 2010 to pursue private interests. Since 2011 he has served as a non-executive member of the Board and Audit Committee of Steinhoff International Holdings Limited and currently also chairs its Remuneration Committee.
