Fatality at Harmony’s Phakisa mine

Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited (“Harmony”) regrets to
advise that a rock drill operator was fatally injured in a
fall of ground accident at its Phakisa mine near Welkom
yesterday afternoon.

Drilling and blasting operations at the mine have been stopped
while further investigations into the accident are taking
place.

Harmony’s chief executive officer, Peter Steenkamp commented:
“We are deeply saddened by another fall of ground accident. My
condolences go to the family and friends of the deceased.”
