Dr Salomão, who is Mozambican, is the former Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC, 2005 - 2013). At Regional level, he presided over the SADC roadmap for the preparatory process of the SADC Free Trade Area, which was launched by the SADC Summit in August 2008. He also guided the broad-based consultative process for the SADC Regional Infrastructure Development Master Plan (RIDMP) culminating in its adoption by Summit in 2012. The RIDMP currently constitutes the blue print for the roll-out of infrastructure programmes in the SADC region. Prior to these positions, Dr Salomão made significant contributions to the development of his country in senior Government leadership positions spanning a period of 22 years.He was the Minister of Transport and Communications from 2000 to 2004. He is also former Minister of Finance and Planning (1994 to 1999) during the period of reconstruction in Mozambique following the 1992 Peace Agreement. He also served as Governor for Mozambique at the African Development Bank, International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. He is currently a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Witwatersrand School of Governance. He is also the non-executive Chairman of the Board of Standard Bank, Mozambique.
