AFROX ANNOUNCES THE APPOINTMENT OF SCHALK MARTHINUS VENTER AS ITS NEW MANAGING
DIRECTOR AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Afrox has announced that South African Schalk Venter, currently Managing Director AEL Mining

the industrial gases and welding products group. Schalk will also be appointed as director on the
Company’s Board. His appointment as Managing Director is effective from 18 May 2015.

Schalk, aged 48, joined Chemserve Systems in 1991 as a junior sales representative and went on to
serve as Managing Director of a number of subsidiaries of the Group, before he was promoted to the
Chemical Services Executive and Board in 2006. Thereafter, he was appointed Chairman of a number
of subsidiaries including Nulandis, Resinkem, Duco Speciality Coatings and Chemfit . In 2010 he was
promoted to the AECI Executive, and in 2012 promoted to Managing Director of AECI’s biggest
subsidiary, AEL Mining Services.

Schalk holds an Analytical Chemistry HND from Tshwane University of Technology and a Business

He succeeds Brett Kimber, who resigned as Managing Director of Afrox after three years with the
Company. Afrox Chairman, Mike Huggon, commented: "In Schalk Venter, I believe we have the right
mix of management and leadership skills and experience to enable Afrox to realise its plans to
rightsize the Group to reflect current market conditions and bring a greater focus to meeting the
needs of our customers in these tough economic times. He has successfully led a number of high
performing businesses and has wide experience of working successfully in a business transformation
environment. Afrox is currently undergoing a major restructure to reduce fixed costs and raise
margins and the Board feels Schalk can and will rapidly deliver a business that is structured for
sustainable growth.” Venter will be the eleventh Managing Director in Afrox`s 88-year history. Afrox
operates in South Africa and in 15 other countries in Africa, and is a leader in the markets it serves.
