Schalk will also be appointed as director on the Company’s Board. His appointment as Managing Director is effective from 18 May 2015. Schalk, aged 48, joined Chemserve Systems in 1991 as a junior sales representative and went on to serve as Managing Director of a number of subsidiaries of the Group, before he was promoted to the Chemical Services Executive and Board in 2006. Thereafter, he was appointed Chairman of a number of subsidiaries including Nulandis, Resinkem, Duco Speciality Coatings and Chemfit . In 2010 he was promoted to the AECI Executive, and in 2012 promoted to Managing Director of AECI’s biggest subsidiary, AEL Mining Services. Schalk holds an Analytical Chemistry HND from Tshwane University of Technology and a Business Administration PMD from the University of Cape Town, and completed the Board Leadership Programme at GIBS in 2006. He succeeds Brett Kimber, who resigned as Managing Director of Afrox after three years with the Company.
