Appointment of Massmart CFO

Following the August 2014 announcement of the intended resignation of Ilan Zwarenstein
from his role as Massmart Finance Director, the Massmart Board is pleased to announce the
appointment of Johannes (Hans) van Lierop as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Massmart
with effect from 12 March 2015.

Hans, age 48 years, is a Dutch national and qualified as a chartered accountant with Ernst &
Young in the Netherlands in 1997.

Hans has extensive experience in Africa where he has lived in three different countries and
covered over 20 countries at various times over the last 18 years. In particular, he was with
Diageo from 2000 to 2011 where he worked in various roles including Finance, Supply Chain
and Planning, finishing as CFO of the Diageo subsidiary Guinness Nigeria in 2011.

He joins Massmart from Bharti Airtel Africa in Kenya where he was CFO from 2011 to 2014.

Hans will report to Massmart CEO, Guy Hayward.

The Board is very pleased to have appointed a candidate of Hans’ calibre and is confident
that his international business exposure and experience in FMCG and in Africa will add
considerable value to Massmart.

Ilan Zwarenstein accordingly resigns as Massmart Finance Director. The Board would like
to thank him for his valuable contribution as Finance Director since 2012.
