Anglo American seconds Khanyisile Kweyama to Business Unity South Africa as CEO

Anglo American plc (“Anglo American”) announces the secondment of Khanyisile Kweyama, Executive Director of
Anglo American South Africa, for a two year term as CEO of Business Unity South Africa (“BUSA”), the organisation
that represents the interests of the business community in South Africa. Ms Kweyama will take up her new position at
BUSA with effect
2 January 2015.

Mark Cutifani, Chief Executive of Anglo American, said: “Khanyisile Kweyama has the perfect blend of experience to
lead BUSA in its mission to serve the interests of the South African business community with a strong, yet fair voice. I
thank Khanyisile for her work as our executive director in South Africa over the last two years, in what has been a
challenging period for the mining industry, and wish her well during her secondment to BUSA.”

Khanyisile Kweyama commented: “I am proud of the work of my team at Anglo American and that we have
accomplished a closer and more trusting relationship with the government and our other key stakeholders. I am now
honoured to be taking up the role of CEO of BUSA in what is a most critical time for business and government in
South Africa to better understand each other and to work towards our common goals. Given the right regulatory and
fiscal parameters, businesses in South Africa are the force that can be unlocked to make the investments necessary
to grow, to create jobs and to deliver the economic upliftment that we all want for our country.”

Anglo American is carrying out a review of the governance structure within Anglo American’s corporate office in South
Africa to ensure optimal effectiveness and alignment with its business priorities and will confirm any changes to that
structure in due course.
