RETIREMENT OF EXISTING CHAIRMAN AND APPOINTMENT OF NEW
CHAIRMAN

In compliance with the JSE Listings Requirements, the following information
is disclosed:

Retirement of Sindile Lester Leslie Peteni as Chairman of Basil Read

The Board of Directors of Basil Read (the “Board”) hereby announces that
Lester Peteni will retire as Independent Non-Executive Director and Chairman
of the Company with effect from 31 December 2014.

Lester was appointed to the Board in July 2006, and as Chairman of the
Company in May 2009. He has served Basil Read in a number of capacities
with distinction for many years.
“Lester’s role in the growth and development of the business has been
immense. We will miss his quiet wisdom and counsel as Basil Read enters its
seventh decade,” said Neville Nicolau, Chief Executive Officer of the
Company.

Appointment of Paul Cambo Baloyi as new Independent Non-Executive
Chairman of Basil Read

The Board is delighted to announce that Paul Cambo Baloyi, who joined the
Board in November 2012, as an Independent Non-Executive Director, will
succeed Lester as Independent Non-Executive Chairman, with effect from
1 January 2015. Paul has been a member of the Audit Committee,
Nominations Committee and is the Chairman of the Risk Committee.

The Board of Basil Read congratulates Paul on his appointment and looks
forward to his stewardship.
