ALERT STEEL HOLDINGS LIMITED (IN BUSINESS RESCUE)
(Incorporated in the Republic of South Africa)
(Registration number 2003/005144/06)
JSE code: AET ISIN: ZAE000170395
(“Holdings”)

Update on Business Rescue Proceedings of Holdings and renewal of Cautionary Announcements

1. Shareholders are referred to the SENS announcement released on 26 June 2014 regarding the
postponement of the publication of the Business Rescue Plan (‘BRP’) of Holdings to 11 July 2014. The
BRP of Holdings is influenced by the BRP of Alert Steel (Pty) Ltd (‘Alert Steel’), which was scheduled
for approval at a meeting that was to be held on 4 July 2014.

2. Since the meeting for Alert Steel was postponed by the Court Order as announced on SENS on 9
July 2014, the business rescue practitioner of Holdings seeks approval from creditors to extend the
publication date of the BRP of Holdings to 24 July 2014. The major creditor of Holdings, Mercantile
Bank, supports the extension. Creditors who oppose the extension are requested to contact the
business rescue practitioner, Mr Juanito Damons, by e-mail at admin@businessrescuepartner.co.za in
this regard.

3. Shareholders are advised to continue to exercise caution when dealing in Holdings’ securities until
further information with regards to the status of the business rescue processes in respect of both
companies is provided.
