UPDATE ON BUSINESS              RESCUE     APPLICATIONS        AND    RENEWAL       OF   CAUTIONARY
ANNOUNCEMENTS

The board of directors ("Board") of Alert would like to draw shareholders’ attention to the
announcements that were published on SENS on 12 May and 15 May 2014 respectively, in which the
shareholders were advised that Alert Steel (Pty) Ltd (‘Alert Steel’), a wholly owned subsidiary of
Holdings and Holdings (collectively ‘the companies’) have begun with business rescue proceedings as
provided for by Section 129 of the Companies Act, 2008, as amended. The current state of affairs in
respect of both processes is summarised below.

1. Filing of the resolutions

The board resolution to apply for business recue of Alert Steel was filed by Alert Steel with the
Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (“CIPC”) on 9 May 2014 and the effective date of
commencement of the business rescue proceedings of Alert Steel is confirmed as 9 May 2014, in
accordance with Section 132 (1)(a)(i) of the Companies Act.

The board resolution to apply for business recue of Holdings was filed by Alert with CIPC on 20 May
and the effective date of commencement of the business rescue proceedings of Alert is confirmed as
21 May, in accordance with Section 132 (1)(a)(i) of the Companies Act.

2. Appointment of business rescue practitioners

Alert Steel has appointed Mr Zaheer Cassim as business rescue practitioner and he duly accepted the
appointment on 13 May 2014.

Holdings has appointed Mr Juanito Damons as business rescue practitioner and he duly accepted the
appointment on 21 May 2014.

3. Notices of the resolutions

The companies are in the process of publishing a notice of the respective board resolutions and their
effective dates, in the prescribed manner to every affected person ("Notices"). Such Notices will include
copies of the resolutions, sworn statements of the facts relevant to the grounds on which the resolutions
were founded in terms of Section 129(3)(a) of the Companies Act and the notice of appointment of a
business rescue practitioner. Copies of the Notices may be obtained from the Alert on e-mail

4. Renewal of both cautionary announcements dated 12 and 15 May 2014

Shareholders are advised to continue to exercise caution when dealing in Hollings’s securities until
further information with regards to the status of the business rescue processes in respect of both
companies is provided.
